A roll-lot of fun
WHEN it comes to fast action on eight (small) wheels, Warrnambool Roller Derby League (WRDL) has it all.
From its home base at the showgrounds, this vibrant club offers people of all ages the chance to learn to skate in a friendly and safe environment, hone their skating skills and, if desired, the opportunity to enter the competitive and exciting world of roller derby.
According to club members, you’re never too old to learn, change your routine or pick up a new sport.
Team Regional Victoria (which comprises Mildura, Wimmera, Gippsland Lakes and Albury Wodonga) recently accepted WRDL into its team for ‘Statewide Stampede 2023’.
This opportunity enabled modified contact for level three seniors Kirsty, Michelle and Chloe, and led to full contact for Rosie and Ash who graduated to join Genevieve in TRV’s bouting team.
Among the group, several MVPs were awarded including Chloe as jammer and Rosie as blocker in modified contact, while Genevieve has twice received the award in full contact as a blocker and Rosie as a jammer.
Adding to the group’s growing list of awards, Ash also received Team Regional Victoria’s internally-voted MVP for the recent game against Ballarat Roller Derby League.
