The classic again attracted families, individuals and pets to Warrnambool, keen to raise some vital funds towards breast and ovarian cancer research.

Among the crowd, mum Samantha Byron was eager to participate with her children.

“It’s a great way to start the day and wonderful to see so many people here,” she said.

Every day in Australia 61 people are diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer (with an average 12 deaths recorded each day).

The Mother’s Day Classic has been held at various locations across the state since 1998, with participants dedicated to walking, running and fundraising to save women’s lives.

Nation-wide, in the last 28 years the event has donated more than $48 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and since 2024, $2.57 million has been donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

More than 90 events take place across Australia each year on Mother’s Day.
