A woolly weekend at Flagstaff

LAST weekend’s cold weather provided the perfect backdrop for a warm and woolly program at Flagstaff Hill.

John kept some of the youngest visitors well entertained with his book reading skills.

Crowds visited the popular Warrnambool attraction across the two days, eager to see and do a range of activities centred around wool.

The ‘Wool Weekend’ celebrations included live demonstrations of traditional wool and fibre trades and crafts.

This included blade shearing, fleece preparation, yarn spinning, knitting, dyeing and a hands-on felt hat making workshop.

“South west Victoria has such a strong connection with wool so it’s something we are really proud to celebrate,” Flagstaff Hill curator and exhibitions coordinator Kate Wake said.

“The wool weekend has quickly become one of our village’s most popular weekends, giving visitors the chance to see the whole process unfold, from sheep shearing through to finished products.”

Warrnambool City Council residents who sign up for the free Local Ambassador program are reminded that entry to Flagstaff Hill continues to be free for them throughout the year.
