Ambassador role for McCullagh
POPULAR Sprintcar driver Corey McCullagh has been named the 2026 ambassador for ALERT Warrnambool.

The talented 35 year-old Warrnambool driver is now the proud face behind the ALERT 2026 program, and he is keen to spread the word.
“I feel privileged to be asked to be the ambassador this year and am proud to be associated with such a worthwhile program,” he said.
“Jo and Greg Moon have done an amazing job throughout this campaign, which aims to help bring down the region’s road toll and improve access for drivers of all ages to informative and educational driver programs.
“There are many sessions throughout the program, including the defensive driving course which I encourage everyone to undertake if they can.
“I’m a strong believer in everyone doing some sort of course like this prior to getting their licence, or shortly afterwards. I come from a motorsport background and know how long it takes to control a car – but many don’t and should.”
As a successful Sprintcar driver, Corey knows the importance of understanding car control and has total respect for the fact that speed has no place on our roads.
And as a young dad, Corey is also passionate about the correct fitting of child car restraints (another session that has been incorporated into this year’s ALERT program).
Corey and wife Emma will be among the guest speakers at the ‘Voices and Views’ session at the Lighthouse Theatre on Thursday, May 21 from 7pm – where the Warrnambool library will also re-launch the Warrnambool Community Drive simulator.
Corey’s Sprintcar will also be on display on the Civic Green between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, May 23.
As part of the ALERT Warrnambool program (which will run from May 21-23 to coincide with this month’s National Road Safety Week) a defensive driving course, ran by the professional team at Murcotts, has been organised for day one - Thursday, May 21.
This highly valuable course, which brings defensive driver training out of the city and into our regional area, will be held at the Warrnambool Airport, starting from around 8.15am.
In just one day drivers can learn to be a safer, more confident road user who is aware of their car, its limits and their own capabilities.
The program is an effective introduction to the concept of defensive driving and incorporates learning through practical in-car exercises.
The full day session also provides participants with an abundance of knowledge about vehicle safety and safer driving strategies.
The course has been designed for drivers of all levels of experience and participants must provide their own vehicle for the practical activities (these must be registered and roadworthy).
All participants must hold a P-plate or full Australian drivers licence to enrol.
As numbers are limited, bookings are essential.
Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and this course will no doubt be one of many highlights of the ALERT Warrnambool program this year.
Anyone interested in booking their place in the defensive driving course should head to the ALERT Warrnambool social pages for details and further information.
With so many valuable sessions planned, this year’s ALERT Warrnambool program is one not to be missed.
