Amelia, one of 11 entrants in last weekend’s Aria competition, entertained a near-capacity crowd at the final at Christ Church Warrnambool last Sunday.

The two-day event showcased some highly talented local and visiting artists.

Doncaster’s Alexander Owens was awarded the Chris Hayes Memorial Trophy on Saturday.

This is awarded to a first-time participant who doesn’t make the final, and is in memory of the eisteddfod’s late convenor, Christine Hayes who passed away unexpectedly in 2023.

The prize covers entry fees, travel and accommodation for two people to the value of $600 – so the winner can return and compete in next year’s event.

Alex is heading to Geneva in July to further his studies but said he was keen to return next year.

Saturday’s championship section was won by Isabella Hincksman who returned to Australia (for the competition) from the United States where she is currently studying.

She was also named a finalist and was awarded an honourable mention in the final.

Southbank’s Hartley Trusler was named winner of the Lieder (the first session on Saturday) which was from a German repertoire.

He also received the encouragement award after finishing second in the final on Sunday.

The eisteddfod was officially opened by deputy mayor, Cr Matt Walsh.

Liane Keegan was the event adjudicator and Phillipa Safety the accompanist.

After another successful weekend, organisers are now busy planning for the 50th anniversary of the event, to be held in 2027.
