Angling for a worthy cause

A FUNDRAISING event hosted by the Koroit and District Angling Club has resulted in a $1,000 donation to the local Prostate Cancer Network.

The club held its first event of the 2025/26 fishing season on Sunday, October 5.

The day was not only a successful membership renewal drive, it also placed a focus on raising awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of good health.

The fishing competition was held along the banks of the Moyne River at Port Fairy and a raffle was held throughout the day – with anglers also encouraged to dress in blue (following the blue theme of prostate cancer).

The day began at the boat ramp near the mariner, with the club gazebo adorned with blue balloons and signage to promote the event to passers-by.

More than 30 anglers entered the competition and later enjoyed a barbecue and blue-iced donuts.

Guest speaker Daniel Deppeler from OZFish spoke about the work his organisation was undertaking to help with fish habitat restoration and programs to educate anglers on the things that could lead to more fish stocks in the future.
