Artist brings creativity to Koroit
TALENTED Warrnambool artist Matthew Clarke has added a splash of colour and creative flare to an exterior wall at the Koroit Theatre.
Clarke’s original artwork is now on display as part of Creative Moyne’s new BIG ART.SMALL TOWNS public art program.
The inaugural exhibition features three large-scale works by Clarke, and a new artwork by Mortlake-based Wiradjuri artist Chrystel Galea at the Mortlake Community Hub.
Moyne Shire mayor Cr Jordan Lockett said the program was designed to make art more visible and accessible while supporting regional artists.
“Public art brings creativity into the places where we live, work and visit,” Cr Lockett said.
“This program creates opportunities for artists to showcase their work while giving residents and visitors something new to discover in our towns.
“In the age of AI-generated rubbish art there’s never been a more important time to celebrate the artistic wonder humans create.”
Matthew Clarke’s exhibition includes works inspired by personal experiences and people who have shaped his life.
The current artworks, on free exhibition, will remain on display until October 31, 2026.
The public art program will present four exhibitions each year at both locations, rotating every three months, creating an ongoing showcase of regional creativity across Moyne.
