Birds of a feather...

BIRD lovers of all ages headed to the Warrnambool Showgrounds last weekend for a bird expo and sale.

The event, organised by members of the Centre West Bird Club, attracted a large crowd to the showgrounds for the annual event which, according to club president Murray Gough, was a huge success.

“We previously ran the sale and expo in Cobden but last year we moved it to Warrnambool because we found that, due to the locality of our members, that was a more central location,” Murray said.

“And it has worked really well. Our final event in Cobden had 14 sellers, last year we had 40 in Warrnambool and this year we had close to 50 sellers which was just amazing.

“And it was wonderful to see so many people come through the door to have a look, with several leaving with a new bird. Our sellers were very happy with how the event went.”

Although relatively small in membership, the club had around 25 members at last weekend’s event and all had a successful time.

“Our members were thrilled with how the event went and are already looking forward to next year,” Murray said.

“With so many sellers, there was a wide range of birds with everything from canaries, finches and budgies through to hand raised African greys and native parrots.”

Trade displays, seed sales and food vans were also popular throughout the day.
