Bloods ruffle Eagles wings

WITH just two home and away rounds remaining, ladder leaders North Warrnambool had their wings ruffled last weekend, finishing the day level with visitors Terang Mortlake.

The Bloods travelled to Bushfield determined to ruffle the undefeated Eagles last Saturday.

The Bloods went in to the final term 36 points down but in a courageous comeback kicked seven majors in the final term while containing the Eagles to just one to finish 10.11.71 all on the final siren.

The draw was the first for the Eagles, currently sitting undefeated after 16 rounds of the Hampden League season.

Best for the home side last weekend were Jackson Grundy, Luke Wines, Harry Keast, Adam Wines, Zac Everall and Baillie Keast.

Charlie McKinnon kicked four majors for the day, with a goal each to Everall, Grundy, Tom Keast, Sebastian Shiells, Nathan Vardy and Lachlan Wines.

In other round 16 matches, Koroit were big 69-point winners over Cobden, Portland easily accounted for Camperdown, the Roosters celebrated a 42-point win over Hamilton while the Warrnambool Blues were big 90-point victors over Port Fairy.

This weekend will see Cobden host Camperdown, the Roosters will be home to Portland, Koroit and Port Fairy will meet at Gardens Oval, the Bloods will host the Blues while the Eagles will travel to take on Hamilton.

On the senior ladder, the Eagles remain three games clear of nearest rivals Terang Mortlake, with Koroit in third followed by Portland and Warrnambool.

South Warrnambool remain just one game out of the top five with nine wins and seven losses to date.

In the Open grade netball, South Warrnambool continued its unblemished season with a big 102-32 win over Hamilton last Saturday.

For the Roosters, Ally O’Connor, Meg Kelson and Emma Buwalda were named in the best, with Buwalda shooting 34 goals, Meg Carlin 45 and Darcy McFarlane 23.

Other round 16 wins went to Koroit, Camperdown, Warrnambool and North Warrnambool.

The Roosters sit two games clear of Koroit on the Open division ladder, with Port Fairy, Warrnambool and Cobden rounding out the top five.
