Blues’ dominance continues

NIRRANDA took out the Warrnambool and District senior football premiership for the fifth consecutive year after a 26-point grand final win over Allansford on Saturday.

Allansford led by eight points at half-time before Nirranda kicked 10 second half goals to four to run out 15.6.96 to 10.10.70 winners at the Reid Oval.

Full-forward Nick Harding bagged seven goals and won one of the two best on ground medals, along with defender Brayden Harkness.

John Paulin, Dylan Philp, Brendan Richardson and Luke Weel were also in the best for the Blues, with Dylan Parish kicking three goals.

Best for Allansford were Rani Jamieson, Bradley Edge, Bradley Williams, Josh Kirkwood, Aiden Gordon and Flynn Gleeson, with Robbie Hare kicking three goals.

The triumph was Nirranda’s eighth senior premiership since joining the WDFNL in 1992, and seventh since 2016.

Nirranda’s reserves made it cause for a double celebration with a 10.3.63 to 6.5.41 grand final win, also over Allansford.

Dylan Lees, Benjamin Hadden, Toby Dalton, Max Primmer, Jonathon McLaren and Bronte McCann were best in the win, with Hadden kicking five goals, Lees three and Brady Kew two.

Hadden and Dalton were awarded best on ground medals for their roles in the win.

Best for Allansford were Kayden Schrama-Willmot, Noah Mclean, Lachlan Clark, Daniel Pogson, Taylan Jones and Wyatt Gleeson.

The under 18.5 game saw South Rovers defeat Russells Creek 12.5.77 to 8.6.54 to take out the flag.

Sam Anderson, Noah Greene, Jack Creece, Patrick Blythe, Jackson Mauriks and Isaac Goodwin were best in the win for South Rovers, with Waya Keutenius kicking four goals and Goodwin and Blythe two each.

Jack Creece was awarded the best on ground medal.

For Russells Creek, Isaac Henderson, Max Carter, Thomas Knowles, Chad Nevill, Zayan Khanyari and Gilbert Harrison were best, with Kobi Chatfield kicking three goals.

The under 16 decider saw Allansford score a 6.3.39 to 4.4.28 win over Dennington.

Eli Dodson, Zavier Turner, Fletcher Monaghan, Blair Roberts, Curtis Morrison and Arthur O’Leary were best for Allansford, with Charlie Adams kicking two goals.

Monaghan was awarded the best on ground medal.

For Dennington, Connor Brisbane, Mac Cooknell, Jack Weathers, Patrick Bowman, Jacob Hose and Fletcher Gillmartin were best, with Luke Roney kicking two goals.

The under 13.5 grand final saw Dennington record a strong 10.14.74 to 0.0.0 win over Old Collegians.

Best for the Dogs were Jensen Laird, Codi Symons, Max Armstrong, Jaxon Boyle, Brax Alford and Xavier Poynton with Symons the only multiple goalkicker with two.

Best for Old Collegians in the loss were Levi Delaney, Darcy O’Shannassy, Jack Cushen, Darcy Brebner, Jack Brown and Joel King.

In the A grade netball, Merrivale made it back-to-back premierships with a 49-40 grand final win over Nirranda.

Mia Mills, Paiyton Noonan and Georgia Martin were best for the Tigers in the victory, Mills winning the best on court medal for a second year in a row.

Noonan shot 36 goals and Chloe O’Flaherty 11 for the winners.

For Nirranda, Bella Wallace, Hayley Pouw and Sophie Adams were best, with Steph Townsend shooting 27 goals and Sophie Adams 12.

Merrivale also took out the A reserve flag with a 33-24 win over Allansford.

Best for the Tigers in the victory were Tatum Cassidy, Amy Jones and Grace Lynch, with Jennifer Netherway scoring 16 goals and Donna Chatfield 15.

Cassidy won the best on court medal.

For Allansford, Sarah Neeson, Maddison Drake and Bridget Foster were best, with Drake shooting 11 goals and Courtney Bellman 10.

In B grade, Allansford scored a tight 28-27 win over Merrivale.

Kate Schultz, Courtney Battistello and Claire Sparrow were best for the Cats in the win, Schultz shooting 21 goals.

Best for Merrivale were Ashlan Noonan, Elodie Bailey and Mylie Gill, with Noonan awarded the best on court medal despite being on the losing side.

Noonan led the scoring for the Tigers with 18 goals.

Allansford also had a one goal win in the 17 and under netball, defeating Old Collegians 33-32.

Sienna Byron, Sienna Ballinger and Poppy Holloway were best in the win for the Cats, with Sophie Rowlands and Ellie Christoforou shooting 15 goals each.

Byron won the best on court medal.

Sarah Moore, Maya Furphy and Dekotah Ellis were best for the Warriors, Ellis shooting 17 goals and Paige Lenehan 15.

In the 15 and under grand final, Timboon completed a perfect undefeated season, defeating Russells Creek 40-32.

Aysha Hollick, Lahni Hanegraaf and Elise Quarrell were best for Timboon, with Hollick shooting 20 goals and Indii McKenzie 18.

Hollick was awarded the best on court medal.

For Russells Creek, Marli Moore, Alicia Martin and Emily Hancock were best, with Ella Henriksen scoring a match high 30 goals.

Merrivale took out the 13 and under premiership with a 28-16 win over Timboon.

Charli Fish, Stella Adriaanse and Ivy Burgess were best for the Tigers in the win, with Lily Stewart shooting 14 goals and Sadie Mahony-Gilchrist 12.

Fish took out the medal for best on court.

Annabel Doolan, Elise Nicholls and Grace Richardson were best in the loss for the Demons, Richardson shooting 13 goals.

The first ever WDFNL 11 and under grand final saw Timboon complete an undefeated season with an 18-6 win over Dennington.

Isla Lenehan, Eva Watson and Olive Doolan were best for the junior Demons, with Gretel Hollick shooting 12 goals and Isla Lenehan six.
