Boost for social housing
SOCIAL housing in Warrnambool has been given a boost with the first turning of the sod for the construction of 21 new homes.

Salvation Army Housing Victoria (SAHV) is delivering 21 new social housing homes (14 two-bedroom townhouses and seven, three-bedroom townhouses) in partnership with Homes Victoria.
The Salvation Army (Vic) Property Trust owns the broader site, which includes the new Corps and Community Centre at 58-60 Mortlake Road.
The rear portion of the land was subdivided and transferred to SAHV for the development of social housing at 82 Breton Street.
This project received funding through the Build and Operate 2 round of the Social Housing Growth Fund under the ‘Homes for Victorians’ strategy.
The housing will focus on supporting female renters over the age of 50 and families with children, who have applied for housing through the Victorian Housing Register.
Construction began in February this year and is on track for completion in July 2027.
A community garden will be located at the western part of the site to support broader community engagement activities with the adjacent Salvation Army Warrnambool Corps and Salvation Army social mission services.
The homes are perfectly situated, less than two kilometres from the Warrnambool Hospital and nearby parkland, and less than 100m from a bus stop.
Nearby schools include St Joseph’s Primary School and Our Lady Help of Christians primary.
Homes Victoria will contribute $18.9 million in availability contributions towards this project from the Social Housing Growth Fund.
The total project cost is $13.4 million.
