Braving the cold for MND

THERE were plenty of cold bodies at Gateway Plaza last weekend when a group of brave souls took on an ‘ice bucket challenge’ all in the name of a good cause.

The icy challenge, which was organised by long-time Coles employee Fiona Lee, proved a successful fundraiser for MND.

Despite the wintry weather, a large crowd gathered on Sunday to watch and cheer as buckets of ice-cold water were poured over the heads of almost a dozen willing participants.

Sale of MND merchandise, along with some hot sausages straight off the barbecue, also proved a winning combination on the day.

“Our barbecue and ice challenge raised $650 for MND research which was wonderful,” Fiona said.

“Many thanks to all those who were brave enough to face the buckets of ice and water, and to those who came along and cheered, purchased merchandise or something from the barbecue.

“Thanks also to all our sponsors, and to Tash Kane, Danielle McKenzie, Kevin Olsen and Gateway Plaza for their support; it was greatly appreciated and helped make the day the success it was.”

Plans are already underway for 2027, with Fiona keen to make it even “bigger and better.”
