Brigade enters 50th year with appeal

THE Koroit community knows how to rally support for a good cause – and each year The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal is at the top of the list.

This year the Koroit Fire Brigade will enter its 50th appeal, and while current brigade captain Steve Giblin said he was unaware of the special milestone until informed by the hospital, it doesn’t surprise him.

“The Koroit community knows how to dig deep, work hard and give generously to worthwhile appeals and the Good Friday Appeal is one of those,” he said.

“We all know a family who has needed the hospital at one stage or another, or has needed it themselves, so collecting on Good Friday is our opportunity to give back and to help ensure the continued longevity of this amazing facility.”

The fire truck will make its way around the streets of Koroit on Friday, with volunteers shaking tins and collecting donations.

“We intend to have four appliances out and about on Friday and are hoping to have around 25-30 volunteer collectors, both adults and children.”

Anyone who would like to help the brigade on the day is most welcome to join the volunteers, who will meet at the Koroit fire station at 8.30am.

“We hope to get going by about 9am and we’ll have plenty of drinks and hot cross buns to keep our team well fed.”
