Britnell highlights roads
REGIONAL lives continue to be placed at risk according to Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell.
According to Ms Britnell, the state government has “fallen 25 per cent short of its own road repair target” as revealed by the Department of Transport and Planning’s latest annual report.
The report states the government only treated nine million square meters of rural and regional roads – 25.6 percent down on its 2022-23 target of 12.14 million square meters.
In comparison, the targets for suburban roads have been met according to Ms Britnell.
“The Labor Government has been cutting the road maintenance budget year by year, as a result our roads are in an appalling state,” Ms Britnell said.
“This city-centric Labor Government is falling short of its own road repair target. The level of disregard beggars belief.
“Without a sufficient resurfacing and resealing program, the deterioration of our roads will only accelerate.”
Ms Britnell recently raised in parliament the “perilous state of roads” across the South West Coast, highlighting the dangers regional commuters face every day.
“We have a city-centric Labor Government with no plan to address this issue,” she said.
