The Macarthur clubs enjoys a close association with Port Fairy-Belfast, having charted that club in 1977 and continues to share a close liaison in many local projects including helping out at the folk festival and Moyneyana.

Milltown is the site of the renowned Milltown Wood Days, which combined the annual visit to the club by District Governor Les Cropely.

Lions from Merino and Hamilton also attended what was a very pleasant picnic-style meeting exemplifying the continuing fellowship of Lions.

Warrnambool Lions Club has also been very busy supporting both the Carols by Candlelight at Dennington and a skin screening exercise at Timboon.

The club’s Christmas cake sales and Lion information site at Gateway Plaza has also kept members on their toes.

Harry Membery from the Allansford and District Primary School was awarded with a certificate by Lion Ken Peddle for winning the local section of the international peace poster contest.

Harry’s entry will go on to the next phase of the competition.

Thanks to our column in last week’s Warrnambool Weekly the Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club has already received 150 pairs of used spectacles for onforwarding to their Brisbane centre where the lenses are re-ground and distributed to needy areas nationally and internationally.]

It is hoped that 500 pairs will be collected before the spectacles are despatched in early January.

Spectacles can be also left at the Christmas hamper raffle conducted in Sackville Street as well as with any Lion.

A special collection box will be placed at the Nightingale Café, the activity centre for senior citizen activities in the senior citizens hall, from the middle of January.

Fifteen entries have been received for the Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Club’s annual art show to open January 27 and certainly exemplifies the amazing talent of our local and district artists.

The show will remain open from 10am to 4pm daily until January 6.
