Canteen grant for cricket clubs

BRIERLY Christ Church and Dennington cricket clubs are two of 17 Victorian clubs to receive funding through the CitiPower Canteen Grants program.

The clubs shared in a record $81,000 in funding to improve local facilities for members and supporters.

The program, now in its sixth year, has distributed $360,000 among more than 80 local cricket clubs.

Over 100 submissions were received this year, with clubs able to use the funding to support a range of necessary upgrades, including electrical upgrades, new refrigerators, dishwashers, pie warmers and oven replacements.

Scott Russell, general manager of CitiPower, said the program was seeing real benefits and safety improvements for players and volunteers alike.

“We all know how essential canteens are to local clubs, but it’s also the one place where electrical safety risks are most likely to be found,” Russell said.

“So far we’ve awarded grants to 86 grassroots clubs; clubs who have now directly benefitted from the program to improve their electrical infrastructure.”

The next round of canteen grant applications will open in October this year.

Clubs are invited to apply for up to $5,000 in grants to address electrical safety issues and improve services provided by cricket club canteens and clubhouses across the CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy network regions.

Both Brierly Christ Church and Dennington were successful in receiving $5,000.
