WCNA entered teams in all four divisions; 13 and under, 15 and under reserves, 15 and under championship and 17 and under.

“It was great to once again host the Western Zone Association Championships here in Warrnambool,” WCNA coordinator Marg Morgan said.

“The event showcased the depth of talent coming through not only our association but also others right across the western region.

“This competition also provides another pathway for both players and umpires through Netball Victoria’s talent identification process.”

Thirty-four teams competed throughout the day, with the two grand final teams from each division qualifying to compete in the state championships in Melbourne on Sunday, June 12.

Warrnambool City’s 17 and under side, coached by Maddy O’Flynn and Kate Foster, had three wins before losing to Hampden League in the semi-final.

The 15 and under championship team, coached by Chelsea Quinn, had four wins and a draw before also losing to Hampden in the semi-final 19-6.

In the 15 and under reserves competition (under coach Jessica Abley), City finished a creditable fifth overall and enjoyed the challenge of competing at a high level while also developing skills playing different positions.

“Our 13 and unders were coached by Lauren Westhorpe and the team included two boys, Gilly Clingin and Bailey Askew, which was great to see,” Marg said.

“It was wonderful to see this young team grow in confidence as each game was played.

“A huge thankyou to Warrnambool City Netball committee, families and volunteers, sponsors and ARC staff across the day on delivering such a successful event; without this it would be hard to provide these opportunities for our players and community.”
