Discreet health packs for young people

YOUNG people in Warrnambool will soon have easier, more discreet access to barrier protection with the launch of new sexual health packs from headspace Warrnambool.

In 2024, chlamydia remained the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) in young people aged 15-25 in Warrnambool, with STI rates continuing to track high in the community.

The sexual health packs are designed to reduce barriers by offering free, practical support in a confidential and accessible way.

Each pack includes two condoms, two lubricant sachets, a QR code linking to local sexual and reproductive health services (including information on STI testing) and instructions on safe condom use.

A spokesperson from headspace Warrnambool said the project was about supporting healthy decision-making while also sparking important conversations.

“We know that access to condoms can still be a challenge in our community, particularly for young people,” they said.

“These packs provide a discreet way to access barrier protection and encourage safer sexual practices, while also connecting young people to the great range of sexual and reproductive health services that are already available locally.”

The project is a collaboration between local health services headspace, WRAD and South West Healthcare.

It is aimed at promoting current free or low-cost sexual and reproductive health supports across Warrnambool.

This approach is also seen as a stepping stone to broader health promotion opportunities and future projects focused on empowering young people to take charge of their health.
