A COMMUNITY knitting project has resulted in a colourful scarf measuring almost 260 metres long.

As part of Carers Week 2026, Mpower last month invited carers, family members, friends and community members to contribute a knitted section to its ‘Carers Connection Community Scarf’ project – with every stitch celebrating a carer in our community.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of people who contributed to this amazing project,” carer support facilitator with Mpower Tracy McKendry said.

“The finished product, this giant scarf, was laid out along the breakwater on Tuesday and measured almost 260 metres long which was so exciting.

“This is a wonderful recognition of the many unpaid carers across south west Victoria and represents the care, support and compassion they provide every day.”

Rosemarie Madden, Trevor Hearfield and Ruth Lanchbery were keen to see how long the scarf measured.
