Festival adds 21 new artists
ORGANISERS of the 50th Port Fairy Folk Festival have announced another huge wave of artists for the March 2027 event.
With gates set to open from 12 noon on Friday, March 5, this special 50th anniversary celebration is set to be even bigger and better than ever before.
For 50 years like-minded music lovers and listeners have made the annual adventure to the windswept shores of Port Fairy and the 2027 event will see the welcome return of music lovers for four days of good folk music.
Earlier this week another wave of artists was announced, bringing together much-loved favourites, international stars and emerging artists from across the globe.
On announcing the additional artists coming to Port Fairy next March, festival program director Justin Rudge said the community was working hard to put together an amazing event in honour of this huge milestone.
“The festival will be a celebration of the deeply connected, nurturing community that Port Fairy is renowned for,” Justin said.

“The special event will celebrate the music lovers who have gathered in the township for five decades, the old friends returning to familiar stages, the new generations discovering the festival for the first time, and those countless songs shared en mass in the Shebeen.
“With more artists still to be revealed, the 50th Port Fairy Folk Festival is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most memorable celebrations in the festival’s history.”
Committee president Bruce Lieshman, who has been involved in the folkie for more than 30 years, said he has seen the festival grow from a little gig on the back of a red truck in the Botanic Gardens to a large-scale celebration that draws fans and artists from all over the world.
“We thank our supporters, friends and family and most of all the Port Fairy community for getting behind this great event for 50 years,” he said.
Among those set to perform at next year’s Folkie are The Milk Carton Kids, Minor Gold, Ordinary Elephant, Sam Kelly, The Settlement, Steph Strings, Sue Ray, Kate Rusby, Eleanor McEvoy and The Burning Hell.
