Final call for award nominations
DO you know an individual or group who goes ‘above and beyond’ in their community and deserves some public recognition?
Nominations for the 2026 Wannon Sport and Volunteer Awards will close on Sunday, October 4 and Member for Wannon Dan Tehan is encouraging people to nominate.
“These awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Wannon’s sporting community and acknowledge the many people who generously volunteer their time to support others,” Mr Tehan said.
“Now is the moment to make sure the individuals and groups who go above and beyond in our communities receive the recognition they deserve. Don’t miss the chance to honour them.”
Last year Warrnambool’s Nathan McKane was recognised as a selfless and inspiring advocate for mental health.
“As an RUOk? volunteer and 2024 ambassador, Nathan worked tirelessly to promote awareness, connection and support throughout our community,” Mr Tehan said.
“His humble approach and unwavering commitment greatly helped foster open conversations and break down stigmas around mental health. His leadership and compassion empowered countless individuals to seek help and feel heard.”
The 2026 award categories are as follows:
Sports Awards:
Primary school (individual or team achievement);
Secondary school (individual or team achievement);
Open (individual or team achievement);
Member of Parliament Award.
Volunteer Awards:
Youth volunteer (under 24 years);
Emergency management;
Group;
Inspiriting individual’
Member of Parliament Award.
Nominations will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, October 4.
The 2026 Wannon Sport and Volunteer Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 19 in Hamilton.
