Finals underway for female footballers
FINALS have started in the Western Victoria Female Football League, with all semi-final matches played last Sunday at Portland’s Hanlon Park.
In the senior second semi-final, South Warrnambool booked a grand final spot with a 7.6.48 to 1.0.6 win over Tyrendarra.
Rosie Pickles, Alyssa Johnstone and Layla Wilson were best for South Warrnambool in the win, with Pickles kicking two goals.
Best for Tyrendarra in the loss were Biankah Paije Rose-Maher, Chloe Reynolds and Jenna-May Bristow.
In the senior first semi-final, Hamilton kept its season alive with a 7.14.56 to 1.1.7 win over Cavendish.
This week’s preliminary final will see Tyrendarra face Hamilton for the right to play South Warrnambool in the grand final.
The under 18 first semi-final saw South Warrnambool score a 4.9.33 to 2.5.17 win over Warrnambool.
Best for South were Molly McNeil, Niamh Ginley and Sibella Evans, with Tamara Rodda kicking two goals.
Scarlett Pearce, Sienna Byron and Star Jackson were best for Warrnambool in the loss.
The second semi-final saw Koroit score a 10 point win over Cavendish, 5.2.32 to 3.4.22, to advance to the grand final.
Leayla Pohl, Marli Blohm and Layla Slater were Koroit’s best, with Blohm kicking two goals.
Best for Cavendish were Annika Baker, Mia Robinson and Harper McInerney, with Zoe Askew kicking two goals.
Cavendish will play South Warrnambool for a spot in the grand final against Koroit.
The under 15 girls’ second semi-final saw Koroit go through to the grand final after a 5.1.31 to 3.4.22 win over Hamilton, who had gone through the season undefeated.
Esther Gleeson, Isabel Divall and Georgie Lee were best for Koroit in the win, with Zoe Askew bagging four goals.
Best for Hamilton were Mikela Pohl, Tatum Bell and Skye Kurzman.
In the under 15 first semi-final, Portland ended Warrnambool’s season with a 2.9.21 to 2.2.14 win.
Best for the Tigers were Gracie Piergrosse, Ava Jacobson and Lexie Elford, with Piergrosse and Lilah Rowe kicking a goal each.
For Warrnambool, Sophie Timpson, Emily Jeppesen and Rose Lumsden were best, with Timpson and Lumsden kicking a goal each.
