Flash mob kicks off Halloween
A FLASH mob on the Merrivale Oval kicked off a whole lot of spooky fun in the town earlier this week.
Thanks to the work of a band of volunteers, Tuesday afternoon’s flash mob was enjoyed by a large group that gathered at the oval to watch the performance, enjoy some Halloween sweet-treats and collect detailed maps outlining the 12 locations on the 2023 Sustainable Scarecrow Trail.
The boo-tiful creations, scattered throughout Merrivale and West Warrnambool, were appreciated by many local families who enjoyed the chance to get out and walk, cycle or drive from one location to the next.
This year’s event, organised by the Merrivale Community Association, was the fourth since its inception in 2020.
As an annual interactive community art exhibition, the scarecrow trail encourages residents to create and display scarecrows made from repurposed materials found around the home and the local environment, including marine litter.
The project continues to raise awareness of marine litter, mainly plastic, that lines our coastline.
Students from Merrivale, Warrnambool West and, St Pius X primary schools, along with Brauer College, also took part in the trail.
