Games abandoned after rain
RAIN forced the abandoned of all but two Warrnambool and District division one cricket matches last weekend.
While rain saw games called off at Purnim, Reid Oval, Jetty Flat Reserve and Mortlake on Saturday, games at Davidson Oval and Southcombe Park managed to escape the weather.
Division one ladder leaders Port Fairy notched up win number six when they took on North Warrnambool.
The Eels won the toss and sent the Pirates in to bat.
Opener James Van De Peer had a great day out, finishing unbeaten on 64 from 69 balls which included four boundaries.
He was well supported by team-mate Max Green who contributed 16.
Port Fairy finished on 4/115 from 23.2 overs.
In reply, the Eels were restricted to 8/112 from 24 overs with Kory Howlett best with the bat with 46, while opener Jamie Harry contributed 31.
At Davidson Oval, Wesley Yambuk 6/121 lost to West Warrnambool 2/122.
Best of the batters for the Beavers were Jason Mungean (40 not out) and Jethro Serle (26) while for West Warrnambool Joe Nyikos was unbeaten on 50 and opener Charlie Blacker contributed 30.
Round nine this weekend will see Wesley Yambuk host Dennington, West Warrnambool play Northern Raiders, Merrivale will host Mortlake, Brierly-Christ Church will travel to Allansford, the Eels will host Nestles and Port Fairy will travel to Jetty Flat Reserve to take on Russells Creek.
