Gators and Raiders to meet in grand final

BRIERLY Northern Raiders and Allansford Panmure will meet in this Sunday’s grand final of the Warrnambool District Cricket women’s division.

After notching up nine wins for the season, the Raiders finished on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away rounds, while the Gators finished third.

The Raiders defeated Hawkesdale in last Sunday’s semi-final round to earn their place in the grand final, while the Gators defeated Nestles.

Hawkesdale won the toss last weekend and elected to bat, making 10/108 in the 27th over.

Best of the bowlers for the Raiders were Amy McKenzie with 3/10 off four overs and Jessica Quinlivan 3/16 off five.

In reply the Raiders reached 4/112 after 24 overs with captain Carly Mittermair top scoring with 37 from 44 deliveries (including four boundaries and a six) while team-mate Grace Butters also performed well, scoring 33 which included four boundaries.

In the other semi-final, Allansford Panmure won the toss and elected to bat.

Shannon Johnson top scored with 38 while team-mates Georgia-Lee Trudgen (25) and Sascha White (23 not out) also performed well, contributing to the side’s 6/154 from 30 overs.

Best of the bowlers for Nestles was Gabby Lenehan with figures of 2/37 from six overs.

In reply Nestles reached 8/148 with Marnie Beks strong at the crease, contributing 44 runs from 56 deliveries which included four boundaries.

Georgia-Lee Trudgen took 2/22 off four overs for the Gators while wickets also fell for Jasmine Anderson, Claire Logan, Christie Stephen and Shannon Johnson.

It’s anticipated this Sunday’s grand final match, to be held at Warrnambool’s Reid Oval, will start at 1pm.
