Get ready for a Shrek-tacular show
THERE’S plenty of Ogre-sized excitement at St Pius X Primary School as students prepare to take to the stage next Wednesday night.
Cast and crew have been working hard to bring the much-loved Shrek: The Musical Kids! to the stage, with rehearsals throughout term three.
Following auditions at the end of term two for enthusiastic performers from years 4–6, songs have since been shared with every year level, giving all students the chance to become involved.
Leading the cast as Shrek is year 6 student Alfie Parkinson, who had never auditioned for a school musical before.
Classmate Ivy McDonald takes on the role of Princess Fiona and has amazed classmates and teachers with her powerhouse performance.
Then there’s Lord Farquaad, played by the larger-than-life Tyler Hunt, while the role of Donkey belongs to Sol McInerney.
Director Samantha O’Keefe couldn’t be prouder of the cast and the wider school community.
“This cast has been second to none. They have been working so hard and sharing their incredible talents, but the way they have worked together, sharing ideas and holding their own extra practices, shows how much this show means to them,” she said.

The production has also become a wonderful example of the St Pius X community coming together.
Past teachers have returned to lend a hand, parents have volunteered their time, and the school’s Hands on Learning Program has been busy creating sets and many of the props.
Local theatre groups Holiday Actors and Warrnambool Theatre Company have also provided valuable support.
For a school community of 253 students, staging a full-scale musical is no small feat.
But Shrek: The Musical Kids! is proving to be about much more than singing, dancing and costumes.
It’s about students discovering new talents, building confidence, supporting one another and feeling proud of what they can achieve together.
Shrek: The Musical Kids! can be seen next Wednesday, September 16 at the St Pius X Parish Hall from 6.45pm.
