The campaign, which began late last year, set out to raise $3,000 by the end of summer to replenish the foundation’s gift card supplies.

These cards provide a very practical way of supporting families across south west Victoria who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

The vouchers are used for fuels, meals, groceries and even at the coffee shop at The Royal Children’s Hospital.

“We are absolutely thrilled that our Gift a Fifty campaign has reached its $3000 target,” executive officer with the Crystal Lee Foundation Julienne Clifford said.

“That is a lot of $50 vouchers and a lot of families helped at a really challenging time.”

For six years the Crystal Lee Foundation has been supporting families across the region who are impacted by cancer.

When a child from regional Victoria has cancer, treatment will be at The Royal Children’s Hospital – who do an amazing job.

“But just imagine the upheaval to families having to relocate, partially or fully, for months on end; only to have to return frequently to Melbourne for follow-up care,” Ms Clifford said.

“Imagine what that does to jobs, finances, social supports. It’s tough enough to deal with your fears and your care for your serious ill child without having to deal with all the practical considerations to go along with it.

“One of the very important things we do at the foundation is just stay in touch, check in and see how things are going and provide information about local support available.”

Ms Clifford acknowledge the amount of support and attention The Royal Children’s Good Friday Appeal receives and encourages everyone to give if they can.

“I can’t thank our local community enough for remembering that there are also a myriad of small local charities who don’t have the big marketing budgets who are doing good and vital work in the community out of kindness and compassion.”

Each year as many as 10 young people in south west Victoria are diagnosed with cancer and it remains the biggest cause of death for our children.

“Our voucher stocks were running low as we headed into the holiday season so we’re very appreciative of all donations received.”

While the $3,000 target has been reached, anyone still wishing to make a contribution to help the foundation help families can contact Ms Clifford at eo@crystallee.org.
