Glowing review for local nurses

IN the wake of this month’s International Nurses Day (May 12), one Warrnambool resident wished to express her gratitude to the “wonderful nursing staff” at both Warrnambool hospitals.

“They are like absolute angels who just don’t get enough credit for the work that they do and the compassion that they show,” Elizabeth said.

“I can only describe them as living examples of love in action; their compassion, skill, empathy and dedication are the heartbeat of our healthcare system.

“Our nurses often work under very challenging circumstances but they have the ability to combine exceptional skill with genuine empathy and that is a very rare and beautiful gift.”

Elizabeth’s most recent experience with nursing staff came about during a stay at both St John of God Hospital and South West Healthcare in Warrnambool.

“Nurses play such an important role in a patient’s health and wellbeing, and in the health system as a whole, and deserve to be recognised,” she said.

“I am deeply grateful for the extraordinary care I received by these professional, radiant souls who were so full of life and laughter; they made my stays in both hospitals just so much brighter; they were like a warm blanket that lifted my spirits.”

Now back home and well on the road to recovery, Elizabeth said during her hospital admissions she felt safe, comfortable and well cared for.

“To often these days people are so quick to criticise others; we need to give credit where credit is due.

“I feel we should be speaking out and thanking those who go above and beyond.

“The professionalism, clinical expertise and compassionate approach these nurses in Warrnambool showed set a standard of care that is truly exemplary. We are all so lucky to have this in our town.”
