Hampden dominates
HAMPDEN’S junior netballers dominated the courts at last Sunday’s Netball Victoria western zone championships in Warrnambool.
The league’s three junior sides all performed remarkably well, finishing undefeated after their respective pool matches, before winning their grand final games.
In the 17 and under championship competition, Hampden defeated Maryborough and Castlemaine 29-3, Warrnambool and District 24-4, Central Highlands 30-3, Ballarat FNL 12-7, Ballarat Pride 13-6, Mininera and District 29-0 and South West District 23-5.
They then went on to defeat Central Highlands 26-2 in the semi-final before overcoming Ballarat FNL 14-12 in the grand final.
In the 15 and under championship division, Hampden defeated Warrnambool City 26-5, Portland 36-2, Ballarat FNL 25-5, Maryborough Castlemaine 23-13, Ballarat Pride 18-11 and Warrnambool District 20-9.
They then defeated Warrnambool District 23-9 in the semi-final before defeating Ballarat Pride 266-9 in the grand final. In the 13 and under championship division, Hampden defated Maryborough Castlemaine 18-3, Portland 22-6, Ballarat Pride 22-5, Ballarat FNL 8-6, Warrnambool City 13-8 and Warrnambool District 10-6.
They then defeated Warrnambool City 19-1 in the semi-final and Ballarat FNL 10-9 in the grand final. Hampden’s 13 and under reserves also took out their competition, defeating Maryborough Castlemaine 17-2, Mininera 23-0, Central Highlands 15-3.
They also drew with Central Highlands 7-7 and defeated both Mininera and Maryborough Castlemaine a second time (before defeating them again 14-3 in the semi-final).
The 13 and under reserves won their grand final against Central Highlands 14-2.
Their wins will now see the Hampden teams travel to the State Netball Centre in Parkville on Sunday, June 18 to compete in the association championships finals day.
