Helping the environment.....one nappy at a time
DISPOSABLE nappies can not only be expensive but also harmful to the environment – with one discarded nappy believed to take years to breakdown.

That’s where the south west cloth nappy library can play an important role in the lives of families across the district.
The nappy library, set to be relaunched early next week by local mums Anna Heinrich and Kat Taylor, is a free service providing cloth nappies free of charge.
“We have hundreds of nappies in stock, clean, sanitised and ready to be shared,” Anna and Kat said.
“Parents and grandparents are welcome to come in and pick up as many as they need, use and wash the nappies and return them once finished with.
“The nappies are returned to us washed and cleaned but we also wash and fully sanitise them so they are safe and ready for the next bub.”
The nappies are fully adjustable and are ‘one size fits most’, catering for very small babies through to those approaching toddler age.
“We are both very passionate about the use of cloth nappies because they are not only a cheaper alternative to disposables but they are much better for the environment,” Kat said.
“Cloth nappies are certainly not for everyone, and we appreciate everyone has different beliefs and needs, but for those considering using cloth nappies we’re here to help.
“This is a totally free service. Some people may be looking at using cloth nappies just occasionally, others may look for full-time use.
“The south west cloth nappy library was the brainchild of Natasha Wills a few years ago and after a short recess we’re now eager to get it up and running once more.”
The nappy library can be found inside the Warrnambool Breastfeeding Centre on Koroit Street.
Anna and Kat will be at the centre next Tuesday from 10.30am for an information session on cloth nappies and the free nappy library.
“We’d love to see parents and grandparents at the centre next week,” they said.
“We can talk about the service and how great these cloth nappies really are; they are great at preventing leaks particularly overnight. We can all save some money while doing our bit to help the environment at the same time – we think it’s a win-win all round.”
