High tea helps bridge generation gap
GENERATIONS united in conversation, games, food and plenty of laughter at St Patrick’s Port Fairy last week.

Wednesday afternoon’s high tea saw students in years four and six join with their invited guests from the nearby Moyneyana House (residential aged care facility) for a memorable afternoon.
“This event was inspired by our student leaders’ goal to build stronger connections with our community and create something special that brings generations together,” teacher Benson Steere said.
“The idea for this high tea actually began back in term two when our student leaders took a leadership road trip to Ballarat.
“They came back inspired and last week’s high tea was the result of their ideas, teamwork and hard work from every year six student.”
When planning began, the leaders knew they didn’t want to do it alone and invited the entire year six class to join them.
“It became a whole-class community project and they teamed up with our amazing Hands on Learning students (in both year six and year four) who helped prepare all the food – from sausage rolls and arancini to mini quiches and lemon slice,” Mr Steer said.
“We used to run a similar rogram here at St Patrick’s called Bringing the Gap which was based around connecting the two generations to start conversations around what life was like, and what it is like now.
“We see great value in this and look forward to continuing the partnership going forward.”
