Having spent several months knitting red poppies in preparation of the special commemoration, the residents recently unveiled a life-sized ‘dress’ made of the special flower.

According to Gillin Park’s lifestyle coordinator, Joan Hose, the group started the project earlier this year and was thrilled with the end result.

“I think there would be well over 300 hand-knitted poppies on this dress,” Joan said.

“It looks absolutely beautiful and I’m so proud of all the ladies who contributed. It is the centrepiece of our Anzac display in the foyer.”

The outfit is made complete with a hat, also decorated with hand-knitted poppies which feature commemorative buttons in each centre.

Gillin Park will hold its own special service on Anzac Day for residents and visitors.
