Informative sessions on grant process

APPLYING for funding can feel daunting, but two upcoming sessions are designed to help Warrnambool community groups, sporting clubs, artists and event organisers better understand the process and put their ideas forward.

Warrnambool City Council is hosting a grant information session at the Lighthouse Theatre on Wednesday, May 13 and a grant writing workshop at Lady Bay Resort on Saturday, May 23.

One session will help people understand what funding opportunities are available and whether their idea is eligible, while the other will focus on building confidence and skills in putting an application together.

Warrnambool mayor Cr Ben Blain said the sessions were about giving community members practical support at different stages of the grant process.

“Sometimes the hardest part is knowing where to start,” he said.

“These sessions are designed to help people understand what funding opportunities are available and how to put forward the strongest possible application.

“Our Community Development Fund and our Festivals and Events Fund open in May with over $300,000 in grants available across various categories, so these workshops aim to help people and groups turn their great ideas into funded projects.

“The guidelines for both of our grants programs are on our website, so have a look and see how your project fits in.”

The grant information session will run from 6.30pm until 8pm on Wednesday, May 13 at Lighthouse Theatre, with light refreshments provided.

The grant writing workshop will run from 9am-12 noon on Saturday, May 23 at the Lady Bay Resort.

This workshop will be delivered by Moyne Shire councillor and communications professional Karen Foster.

Cr Foster is a former journalist who spent more than a decade running a marketing and PR agency, delivering successful events for a range of organisations.

The cost is $20 per organisation, with up to five people from each organisation able to attend.

People can attend either session, or both, depending on where they are in the grant process and the type of support they need.
