Junior titles for Barbetti and Johnstone
WARRNAMBOOL’S Myla Barbetti and Riley Johnstone (Hamilton) are the Under 18 Western Golf Association Inc. junior champions.
Barbetti won the Thelma Green Trophy for girls while Johnstone took home the Robert Farrar Trophy for boys.
Life member Thelma Green was on hand to present the trophy to Myla at the end of play at the Cobden Golf Club on Sunday, November 30.
Myla won by just one stroke from Portland Golf Club’s Arlee Hogan.
Unfortunately, Robert Farrar was unable to attend to present his trophy to Riley.
Riley had an outstanding season on the golf course, missing just one event for the year.
Only nine holes were played on the final day at Cobden due to the weather conditions.
Results from the day:
Boys (0-19 handicap) winner Lenny Spicer 33.5 nett, runner-up Riley Johnstone 35.0 nett.
Boys (20+ handicap) winner Calvin Trail 29.5 nett, runner-up Zac Trail 32.0 nett, third Hudson O’Connell 32.5 nett.
Girls (10-14) winner Myla Barbetti 42.0 nett.
It was pleasing to see junior numbers increasing at each event.
The next event for juniors will be held at the Hamilton Golf Club on January 18; 10am for a 10.30am start.
Many thanks to the Cobden Gold Club for hosting the final event.
Although it was wet under foot as a result of rain the previous night, the juniors were still keen to get out on the course.
