Koroit slips into fourth spot
KOROIT’S significant win in the Orford and District Table Tennis Association this week has seen their percentage lift.
This has allowed the team to leapfrog over Tower Hill into fourth place on the ladder.
Both teams have now opened up a large break from the rest, while Warrnambool Warriors and St Helens have the top two spots secure; Warriors with a vice-like grip on the top position.
Results from week 10:
St Helens defeated Tower Hill 7.21-4.15.
Tower Hill nearly made the score 6/5 when they lost the second doubles.
St Helens’ Aaron and Jensen Rowbottom defeated Darren Smith and David Rowbottom 9-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-3 and 16-14.
Aaron won his three rubbers while Ally and Jensen both won a rubber each for St Helens.
Daren Smith was Tower Hill’s best with two rubbers.
Koroit defeated Glengleeson 10.31-1.6.
Gareth Spring won Glengleeson’s rubber when he defeated Koroit’s Tony Storer 10-12, 11-7, 11-2 and 11-3.
Both Fergus Monsborough and Ray Young won their three rubbers for Koroit.
Ray defeated Gareth 12-10, 8-11, 11-3 and 11-6.
The only five game rubber was Tony’s come-from-behind defeat of Lindsay Morton 9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4 and 11-8.
Attunga defeated Broadwater 8.27-3.13 but it was not the walkover the scores suggest.
Six of the 11 rubbers were extended, with scoring games throughout the scoresheet, to a high of 16-14 in the opening game of the night.
Attunga’s Kelly Wortley defeated Peter Drendel 16-14, 11-8 and 11-8.
Kelly and Gus Looney defeated Peter and Andrea Drendel in the longest rubber of the night 7-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7 and 11-9.
Gus defeated Leah Drendel 8-11, 15-11, 11-4 and 11-6.
Attunga’s Val Wortley won her three rubbers, all in three games.
Orford lost to Warrnambool Warriors 2.9-9.27.
Again, the opening game set the tone for the night, with Neil Ford defeating Jaden Clapp 14-12, 11-6, 1-11 and 11-5.
Only three rubbers were extended but a few games were also, with David Cranwell (Warriors) playing in both when he defeated Steven Young and Jaden.
The Warriors’ Pet Owen won his three rubbers while Russell Hussey was best for Orford with two rubbers.
Next week Tower Hill will face Koroit, Glengleeson will play Attunga, Broadwater will play Orford and Warrnambool Warriors will meet St Helens.
