Large crowd bathed in sunshine for moving Anzac Day service
ONCE again the people of Warrnambool and surrounding areas turned out in large numbers to pay their respects during Anzac Day services last Saturday.

The annual dawn service was again the perfect start to the day, with crowds braving the cool weather to gather and pay homage.
Crowds lined Liebig Street and gathered in front of the RSL to view the traditional parade from just after 10.30am.
Bathed in glorious sunshine, generations stood side by side to commemorate the service and sacrifice of members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) and all those who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Warrnambool RSL president Richard Ridgwell welcomed young and old, saying it was heartening to see so many people continue to gather each year.
“This is a day of reflection and of remembrance; it is a day we pay our respects to all those who fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice, to those who returned home, and to the families of the fallen – all who will never be forgotten.”
Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell also took the opportunity to address the large crowd.
“Today is our chance to honour our heroes; to pause to reflect on the service and sacrifices those from the south west made,” she said.
“We remember the 127 people whose names are on the memorial here, where coming home was not possible.
“Their families continue to come year after year to pause, to reflect and to honour and remember.”
A wreath laying ceremony once again involved a wide cross-section of the community, from sporting groups and service clubs through to schools, health services, emergency services and individuals who came to pay their respects.
