A GOAL to Koroit just seconds before the final siren saw the Saints snatch the 2023 Hampden League under 16 premiership from the Cobden Bombers last weekend.
The Saints held tight in the dying minutes of the game last Sunday to win by just three points over the Bombers.
According to those at the match, the Bombers kicked a goal with about a minute and a half to go in the final term before the Saints responded with a goal of their own just seconds before the siren.
In a game which saw the lead change each quarter, the Saints took an early jump over the Bombers, kicking 2.3 to 1.2 in the opening term.
The Bombers hit back in the second, adding four majors while containing the Saints to two – giving them a five-point lead going into the main break.
The Saints worked hard in the third term, kicking three goals five while the Bombers were restricted to just two behinds.
A 14-point lead to the Saints at the start of the final term set themselves up for a tight contest, with both teams working hard to get the ball in their forward 50 and convert.
Final scores were Koroit 9.10.64 to Cobden 9.7.61.
