Library to celebrate 80 years
WARRNAMBOOL Library will this Saturday celebrate the 80th anniversary of Children’s Book Week.
To mark the occasion the library and the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) will hosting a Birthday Book Adventure and everyone is invited.
Head to the library from 11am tomorrow (Saturday, August 23) for stories, cake and Children’s Book Week fun.
Guests are encouraged to dress as their favourite book characters while celebrating the 2025 CBCA Book of the Year winners.
The party will be officially opened by Cr Vicki Jellie, who will read from one of the winning books before leading the happy birthday cheer and cake cutting.
Partygoers will also have a chance to browse and buy shortlisted and winning titles thanks to Collins Booksellers.
The fun continues with Storytime and Nature Craft with local author and CBCA member Tania Moloney (Nurture in Nature), 80 cupcakes for 80 years, face painting and creative activities for the whole family.
“Children’s Book Week is always special, but this year we’re celebrating eight decades of stories that have shaped generations,” Cr Jellie said.
“It’s the perfect time to come together, dress up, celebrate Australian children’s literature and share the joy of reading.”
In the lead-up to the big celebration, the library’s regular Storytime, Toddler Time and Baby Rhymetime sessions will take on a special Book Week twist.
Everyone is encouraged to dress as their favourite book character, and enjoy stories and songs inspired by the magic of this year’s theme: Book an Adventure.
Warrnambool Library is proud to partner with the Children’s Book Council of Australia Victorian Branch for this event.
