Lions celebrate 50 years
THE Koroit Lions Club has celebrated its 50th anniversary in style, with a dinner at the Koroit theatre.
More than 90 guests enjoyed the celebrations last Saturday night, with festivities including the presentation of a Melvin Jones Award to long-standing Lion, Bruce Lowenthal.
“Bruce has been an active member of Lions for about 40 years, which includes 20 years with the Macarthur club and 20 years with us here in Koroit,” Koroit Lions Club president Jim Madden said.
“Bruce has contributed so much to the organisation and continues to do so, both at a local, zone and district level and his work is greatly appreciated.”
‘James Richardson’ awards – which recognise long-serving members’ contributions to the organisation – were presented to Marg Everard and Daryl Funston.
“Both are very deserving recipients and were quite surprised to receive their awards,” Mr Madden said.
“Marg is a hard working volunteer manager at our Op Shop in Koroit while Daryl is very much the quiet achiever of the club.”
Also among the crowd at last Saturday night’s celebrations were representatives from Port Fairy, Warrnambool and Mortlake clubs.
