According to Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny, the program fast-tracks the rezoning of underused land for new homes, jobs and investment.

“This program is unlocking thousands more homes by making sure suitable sites don’t sit idle for years,” Ms Kilkenny said.

“Instead of suitable sites sitting in the planning system for years, we’re getting them assessed faster so more homes can be built sooner.”

According to Ms Kilkenny, a dozen sites across the state (set to deliver more than 2,000 homes) will be assessed through the Unlocking Strategic Sites program.

“Under Labor’s streamlined approach, this process could be cut in half, getting more homes built faster.

“This is ab out getting homes built faster where Victorians need them most.”

Every project will be subject to planning assessment and community consultation.

Projects will require a minimum of 10 per cent affordable housing.

This new pathway will be delivered through the Development Facilitation Program.
