Mayor to step down

MOYNE Shire mayor Cr Karen Foster has announced she will not be nominating for another term in the position.

“It has been an honour to serve as mayor of our fantastic shire for the past year and it’s a role I have genuinely loved, but it’s time to focus on my business after stepping away while serving as mayor,” Cr Foster said.

“Over the past year I have met incredible people from every corner of Moyne and I’ve had the privilege of speaking at many meetings and community events.”

In a statement issued last week, Cr Foster said her term as Moyne Shire leader had reaffirmed her view that its communities and the people that live within them are the shire’s greatest asset and that there was amazing work happening each and every day to help those communities thrive – often done quietly and without fuss.

“I’ve also seen first-hand the incredible work of our council teams, the dedication they have to supporting our communities and delivering vital services we all rely on each and every day is incredible,” Cr Foster said.

“This experience has provided me with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grow and learn more about myself and about our region. I have been in rooms I never would have dreamt of stepping foot in and I’ve been a part of events and decisions that I believe may help to shape the future of our beautiful part of the world.

“For that, I will always be grateful, and I am looking forward to supporting whoever is elected as our new mayor on October 24 and working with my colleagues in the Chamber towards making Moyne an even greater place to live and work.”
