Mosswood again offers free trees
MOSSWOOD Wildlife is now welcoming applications for its 2026 free tree initiative.

The free tree initiative, now in its third year, aims to increase the amount of native tree cover in south west Victoria by supplying devoted property owners with koala friendly, free native trees.
“We map our plantings every year so properties that align with others to create wildlife corridors will be given priority,” Mosswood administration and volunteer coordinator Colleen Edwards said.
Past applicants can apply again for 2026, however priority will be for people who have sent before, after and progress photos.

This year’s trees will be available to collect from Koroit and have been donated for the initiative via the Forestry Industry.
It’s believed the trees should be ready for an August-September planting to ensure optimal rainfall and ideal conditions for planting.
Recipients must be prepared to water in the event of limited rain supply and trees must be fenced off from livestock and tree guards installed to deter rabbits.
“If successful you will be provided with a mixture of koala friendly, native tree species but we still recommend for plantations/revegetation people source mid-low native canopy as well,” Ms Edwards said.
“Trees will be supplied in HIKO trays with 40 trees to a tray and aren’t able to be split.
“Recipients will also be required to send before, after and progress photos and provide information on the planting location.”
To apply for the free trees, simply complete the form on the Mosswood Wildlife website.
All questions must be answered in full and applications need to be received no later than May 1.
“We will be in contact with applicants via email by June 1 to let them know whether they are successful or not.”
Trees are available in trays of 40.
