New hub for antenatal care
AN increase in demand on South West Healthcare’s women’s health service has resulted in the need to relocate the service.
With demand for the service growing and expanding, it is now operating from a new clinic at 1/304 Timor Street, Warrnambool.
The service offers midwife antenatal appointments, midwifery group practice (MGP) appointments, a birth reflection clinic, infant feeding support service, and perinatal social work (wellbeing appointments and perinatal psychiatry).
The former Possum House building has been renovated to become a new welcoming and dedicated space for parents and expecting families to come for appointments, without having to go through to the main hospital building.
The new clinic site also has parking available on-site for parents with prams, making access to the clinic easier and safer for parents attending with small children.
Women’s health service manager Kate Turner said the team loves the new space.
“This new site looks and feels lovely, and we hope that by making it easier to get to the clinic, we will ease the burden of regular ante and post-natal check- ups for families,” Kate said.
“It’s important to note that while the majority of the antenatal appointments have moved to the Timor St clinic, patients attending the women’s health service for the infusion clinic and all doctor appointments, will still need to present to level 4 at the Warrnambool Base Hospital.
“Having the women’s health service split this way, where all low risk antenatal care is attended offsite, has allowed space for our gynaecology appointments on level four (including the newly launched Menopause Clinic, IUD clinic and Pelvic Pain clinic) and it allows us to stream our patients – so that women who are struggling with fertility, or who are in menopause etc, are not attending a clinic that feels focused toward pregnancy and post partem.”
South West Healthcare chief executive officer Craig Fraser said while there had been a lot of focus on the big build at Timor Street, it was important the community was also aware the service continues to expand across all areas.
“We are finding new spaces that help improve the environment wherever possible,” he said.
“All current patients of the service will be notified when their appointments are moved to Timor Street via text.
