Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora this week joined representatives from the club and Warrnambool City Council to officially flick the switch on the upgraded court lighting.

The project was backed by more than $90,000 from the state government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The old halide lamps surrounding eight of the club’s courts have been replaced with new club competition-standard 350 lux LED lighting.

Together, the new lights allows the venue to extend its operating hours; providing more playing, development and tournament time.

“This is great news for local tennis fans, especially the growing ranks of juniors taking up the sport,” Ms Ermacora said.

“The 2026/27 State Budget is proving more than $24 million to support the development of high-quality, accdessible community sports infracture across the state, including through the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.”

According to Ms Ermacora, this brings the state government’s investment in community sport and active recreation infrastructure to more than $2.4 billion since 2014.

Ms Ermacora thanked Warrnambool City Council for its commitment to delivering the project, the Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club for its funding contribution of almost $33,000, as well as Alex Pye Electrics for its more than $7,000 of in-kind works and donated materials.

“Thanks to this project, the Warrnambool tennis community can now look forwad to more court time throughout the year,” she said.

“More playable hours means the club will have even more opportuniies to expand its programs and get even more locals in on the fun.

“Better facilities like these make it easier for people to lead active, healthy lifestyles, full of the health and wellbeing benefits offered by participating in sport and recreation.”

The Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is currently open for applications, with the closing date set for July 28.
