Thirty-six year old O’Brien, a self-proclaimed ‘journeyman’ finished the 267km race in six hours, 24 minutes – crossing the finish line solo after breaking away from the pack six kilometres earlier.
Now in its 108th year, Australia’s oldest bike race — nicknamed ‘the Warrny’ — was once again proved a crowd pleaser, with hundreds gathering along Raglan Parade to watch riders cross the line.
Connor Sens held on to second place while last year’s winner, Tristan Saunders, claimed third.
