Organ festival next month
FROM the divine to the mysterious, this year’s Warrnambool Organ Festival looks set to be an entertaining weekend.
The festival will kick off on Friday, August 9 with the return of the popular jazz night to Mozart Hall.
Melbourne’s Jake Mason Trio will take to the stage.
Jake has an impressive resume which has seen him work with some giants of the Australian music industry and his own varied projects including Cookin’ On 3 Burners and his own record label, Soul Messin’.
The Jake Mason Trio will be supported by Warrnambool’s Project Sookie Sookie who’ll bring their own brand of jazz and funk to the stage.
On Saturday, August 10 a community choir will once again come together to present a varied program of works under the title “Reflections on the Divine and Mysterious”, accompanied by Craig Doherty on the organ at St Joseph’s Church in Warrnambool.
The program will feature traditional works for organ and choir by Mozart, Bruckner, and Stanford, and some beautiful and atmospheric modern works by Sarah Hopkins and Eric Whitacre.
On Sunday, August 11 audiences will be treated to an organ recital from Marc Slavec.
Marc is an assistant organist at St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne, having previously been a member of the choir there.
He has recently completed a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne and will no doubt be keen to explore every stop on the organ at St Joseph’s.
Musical director Patrick Burns said this year’s program would delight music lovers across the board, with a great line up of special guest artists.
“This year’s program will also feature music that showcases the wonderful local talent and venues here in Warrnambool,” Mr Burns said.
