Parkinson’s walk on next month
ORGANISERS are once again crossing their fingers for clear skies and big crowds at this year’s Parkinson’s Awareness Walk in Warrnambool.
Aptly renamed the Andrew Suggett Parkinson’s Walk (in honour of the man who inspired, and continues to inspire many across the region) this year’s walk will be held on Sunday, October 4 from 10.30am.
The walk will start from behind The Pavilion Café (at the breakwater) with a free sausage sizzle set to greet participants on their return.
Coordinator of the Warrnambool Parkinson’s Support Group Liz Morse hopes the local community will once again show its support and turn out in droves.
“This annual walk aims to provide an opportunity for people living in the district to show their support and to raise awareness and funds for Fight Parkinson’s, to support those living with the disease,” Ms Morse said.
“There are 57,000 people living in Victoria with Parkinson’s and we want to acknowledge them and increase awareness as well as raise money to support the invaluable work that Fight Parkinson’s do.
“We want people to know that there is a supportive community to share their journey; we know that when the Parkinson’s community stands united, we can say more, do more and be more. Let’s walk together and fight together.”
The Warrnambool walk was the first regional walk to be held in Australia, initiated and led by Andrew Suggett.
“It’s important that people are aware of the help and support that is available which includes online information, online services as well as clinical support five days a week,” Ms Morse said.
