Premiership for Raiders
BRIERLY Northern Raiders have won the Warrnambool District Cricket Association’s women’s grand final in a nail-biter at Reid Oval.
The Raiders claimed their maiden women’s premiership in a remarkable final which came down to the last over.
Winning the toss, the Raiders sent Allansford Panmure in to bat.
The Gators were quick on the scoreboard, with openers Sarah Richards (20) and Georgia-Lee Trudgen (12) both putting in a solid effort at the crease.
Shannon Johnson added 26 to the tally, while Sascha White contributed 18, Claire Logan finished unbeaten on 27 and Kaitlin Willsher was not out on 7 – with the Gators ending their 30 overs on 5/142.
The Raiders’ Hannah Rooke was best of the bowlers, taking 3/19 off six overs while team-mate Carly Mittermair finished with figures of 2/22 from six.
Raiders opener Grace Butters played an integral role in her side’s victory with an impressive 61 retired.
Butters innings included eight boundaries from 64 balls faced.
She was well supported on the scoreboard by Kacey Carman (28 not out), Carly Mittermair (17), Hannah Rooke (8), Jessica Quinlivan (6), Fleur Mahoney (5) and Nara Rohan (3).
It wasn’t until the 30th over the Raiders were able to clench victory by the smallest of margins, reaching 5/143 with just five balls remaining.
Best of the bowlers for the Gators was Zoe Bryce with figures of 2/23 from six overs.
Wickets also fell for Claire Logan (1/23) and Christie Stephen (1/20).
