Premiership success for Rangers
WARRNAMBOOL Rangers has celebrated a successful grand final day last weekend.
Sunday, September 6 saw grand final matches of Football Southwest played at Brierly Recreation Reserve.
Fortunately, the weather was kind allowing for some great games of soccer.
The day kicked off with some under 8 and under 10 friendlies, with the kids being able to experience the biggest game day of the year.
The under 12 grand final was between league champions Rangers Blue and Hamilton SC.
Rangers Blue won 1-0, with Harry Kerr scoring the only goal.
The under 13 girls grand final was between league champions Colac Otway Rovers and Port Fairy SC.
In a hard fought game Colac Otway Rovers came out on top 5-2 with Mackenzie Rocka scoring a hat trick.
The under 14s grand final was between league champions Rangers Blue vs Rangers Teal.
Both teams had defeated each other this season in close matches.
The grand final was no different, with Teal having a 1-0 win in a tight contest.
Declan Membrey scored the only goal.
The under 17s was between rivals Rangers and Wolves.
In some high quality, free flowing football Rangers were able to find the back of the net twice to finish 2-0 winners – finishing the season as league champions and premiers.
Bailey Reed and Harvey Warburton finished with a goal each.
The women’s grand final was another epic game between Rangers and Wolves.
With no score at full-time the game went into extra time.
Scores were still locked at 0-0 at the end of extra time, the game going to penalties to decide the premiers.
Rangers managed to take home the title of league champions but Wolves got the chocolates in the grand final finishing with a 4-3 win on penalties.
The men’s grand final was between league champions Rangers Blue vs Rangers Teal.
The game was a high quality affair with great passing and skills on display.
The first half was tight, with Ryan Bail finding the net in the 44th minute giving Blue a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half continued much the same as the first with Blue coming away with a 3-0 win and taking the title of league champions and premiers.
Ryan Bail finished with a hat trick.
A massive thankyou to all referees, officials, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who made grand final day a possibility; without them the games couldn’t go ahead.
