AVID readers across West Warrnambool now have access to a brand new ‘street library’ at West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House.
Street libraries are small, publicly accessible book exchanges where anyone can take a book or leave one for someone else, with the library open 24/7.
The Pecten Park street library, which was decorated by First Nations artist Rebecca Clayton, has a particular focus on books for adults learning English as an Additional Language (EAL).
The library will be initially stocked with 20 EAL books spanning four reading levels.
These books use simple language to tell compelling stories for adult readers.
As well as helping people learn English as an additional language, these books also have the potential to be a valuable resource for anyone looking to develop their literary skills.
Sok Chhom, who currently studies English at South West TAFE, was among a large crowd that gathered for Wednesday morning’s official opening.
“This is a very special library and one that will be very much appreciated by many in the community,” she said.
